I am looking for stories for a theater/video project about missing fathers. When I say missing I do not just mean fathers who were or are physically absent. I am also talking about fathers who were or are emotionally and psychologically absent. The stories have to be true. But you do not have to use your real name.
In particular, I am looking for stories that reveal the relationship, or lack of relationship between you and your father. In as much detail as you can tell me stories about what it was like growing up without a father figure. Stories about how you think growing up without a father affected you then and how it still might affect you now. What I am really trying to find out is: How have your missing fathers affected you and shaped your vision? What do fathers mean to you? What should they mean?
Picture yourself sitting in front of me and telling me who you are and where you are from. If your father is physically gone tell me when he left and any details you know about him leaving. If your father is still in your life physically but still "missing" explain how so. The most important thing in sending your stories is to be honest. Say all the things you always wanted to say but never said. Don't try to make it literary or artistic. Just be true and real and as raw as you can and let it flow out of you as if you were having a sincere open conversation with someone you feel comfortable with.
